My main hobby from the mid 1970's until recently has been Lapidary which is basically the art of collecting, cutting and polishing gemstones and minerals. I have a collection of over 400 specimens at home and a smaller collection at the Tolbooth museum in Stonehaven harbour.
I have been growing cacti in my potting shed for a few years now and towards the autumn of 2016 I started up a new facet to this by placing the cacti in coloured sands in transparent containers for display. To stop the sand falling out of the containers during transport I added an adhesive filler to the top layer leaving a small hole for feeding. I also included airplants in the same medium and also attached them to driftwood.
I have not carried out any Lapidary work since the end of 2016 and am now selling a few of the specimens that I cut and polished to make room for my cacti and air plants.
